Policy Outcomes
Here are some policy outcomes consistent with a “Streets for People” vision:
- Development of a truly visionary Pedestrian Master Plan.
- A progressive urban solution to the Alaska Way Viaduct
- Urging new street designs that add to urban greenery by incorporating more vegetation, natural drainage systems, and wider sidewalks that invite people to walk
- Implementation of Complete Streets and the Bicycle Master Plan
- More frequent, reliable and better local transit – including a visionary Bus Rapid Transit System and an expanded Streetcar system
- Reliable and robust funding for walking, biking and transit through revenue sources that account for the true costs of driving.
- Ending parking minimums in new construction projects citywide, encouraging the conversion of existing street-level car storage to better uses like retail and other community amenities and eliminating un-priced parking with key infrastructure investment programs
- Prioritizing our streets for walking, biking and transit.
- Revising land use regulations to eliminate provisions that prevent housing, retail, jobs and cultural destinations from locating near each other and encouraging innovative design that creates great places.
- Explore shared, low-impact transportation options for “the last mile” for people of all abilities.
