2009 Priorities
In the next year alone, Seattle must make important decisions about how our city grows. In each case we have a choice: we can do things the same old way, or we can show that we can create a new model of a great city.
These issues are too important to be left to the politicians alone. It is essential that community members come together with a collective voice to create the city we want. Here is what we will do to make that happen in the coming year:
Streets for People Campaign – bring together a broad-based coalition to make our local streets better for walking, biking, transit and the local community. This includes building public support for a waterfront without a highway, and helping pass a great pedestrian master plan.
Leadership for Great Neighborhoods — continue expanding the coalition to ensure that major rezones in Seattle meet community objectives, and create more housing for all.
Green Infrastructure — help create a more livable and ecologically sustainable city by incorporating low impact design into public and private investment.
Neighborhood Assistance Program — expand our support for neighborhood-led initiatives for positive change.
Forums and Public Education – continue our successful forum series on what makes a great city, expand our website, and create an internet-based community action network
Pilot Projects – develop pilot projects that demonstrate our ideals in action.
We know that times are tough. But that means now, more than ever, we must find solutions that allow all of us to live in walkable and healthy neighborhoods, with affordable housing and transportation, and great public spaces to be shared by all.
